Principal Investigator (Co-I: Amy Susman-Stillman), Subsidy Utilization and Impact on Early Care and Education of Low-income Children with Special Needs : $136,268 over 17 months US Department of Health and Human Services. 

 

Patterns and Determinants of Disparities in Autism Treatment among Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Children, UMN Children, Youth, & Family Consortium. In this project, large-scale, nationally-representative datasets are used to examine sociodemographic differences in autism identification and treatment.

 

Classifying Children with Autism: Who is Most Likely to Have Unmet Health Needs?, UMN Grant-in-Aid. In this project, we will (a) describe subgroups among children with autism according to developmental, emotional, and health needs, (b) identify sociodemographic differences in subgroup membership, and (c) identify the relations of subgroup membership to age of diagnosis and unmet treatment needs.

 

Can ECSE Make a Difference for Children with Developmental Delays and Disabilities?, UMN Center for Early Education & Development. This project seeks to identify the specific elements of ECSE settings and services that promote positive kindergarten outcomes among young children with special needs.

 

 

      Previous Grant Support

 

When the Shield Becomes a Sword: Racial Bias in Special Education Identification, UMN IDEA Multicultural Research Awards. This project applies experimental methods to ascertain whether racial bias affects referral and eligibility decisions, and the relations of those decisions to clinician characteristics.

 

Special Needs and Early Intervention Receipt among Young Children of Immigrants, Foundation for Child Development. This project examined prevalence of special needs among children from immigrant families, as well as participation in early intervention and special education.

 

School Mental Health Services for Adolescents with Emotional Disturbance: Problem Prevalence, Related Practices, & Adaptations’ Effects on Outcomes, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. This project described prevalence of special needs and access to various educational and community based services among students with special needs, particularly those with emotional disturbance.

 

Propensity Score Matching Analyses of the Effects of Early Childhood Special Education for Children with Developmental Delay or Disability, American Educational Research Association. This project examined the effectiveness of early childhood special education services for young children with special needs.
